FIDLAR Gig Print
Anyone who knows me, knows FIDLAR is one of my favorite bands. Obviously this was a super fun project for me. I knew from the beginning I wanted to do something similar to their first album cover of the Grim Reaper Surfing but with a darker twist. I came up with the concept of turning the grim reapers hood into a giant tidal wave. Ive been to a few of their shows, and those guys are INTENSE! To bump up the intensity of the image I added a hand reaching out of the water for help as the wave is about to turn over on it.
FIDLAR had starting making songs that were a bit more finely tuned around this time, while staying true to their DIY attitude. For this reason I thought it would be interesting to use a very classic looking elegant font, but to do it by hand. I love the way it came out and all of the little imperfections give it more character and suits the band very well. The original version was the Green and black which was meant to be an ode to Punk art of the 90’s, but I later decided their needed to be another poster that represented the unique surf/garage rock sound that is FIDLAR. I chose the blue because I thought it lightened the mood of the image. They have mastered the art of delivering sad songs that sound happy. That is what I did with the blue variant.
